Kibrom Ashebir, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I guess my unique story is that since I was a little kid, I was connected to music in a special way and I hear the music around me passionately. Especially after I joined the Catholic monastery school when I was 12, I have learned the ancient Ethiopian Orthodox Holy chanting (Kidasse) alongside my academic studies. I believe that unique experience changed the way I see music and life in general.

The timeless words from the diary of the great poet and warrior King Solomon, in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 is re-kindled in the present day and set to music by multi-instrumental musician, vocalist and composer Kibrom Birhane in his second full-length album "Bo Gizzae Lekulu" which is in "Geez" the ancient Ethiopian language and still used in Ethiopian Orthodox Church; translates to "A Time For Everything".

Kibrom’s Tizita

New York (TADIAS) — Learning how to play the krar, a five stringed traditional Ethiopian lyre, at age 8, Kibrom Birhane found himself enthralled by Orthodox chanting. “Always it moves me when I hear music,” he says. And from that time on he knew he wanted to pursue a career in music.
